The Beginning of Embers
Embers BBQ purchased the Broad Street Bakery in January 2022. Led by Chef David Bungarz and his partner, Embers BBQ began its journey in June of 2022. In October 2024, Chef David bought out his partner and became sole owner of Embers BBQ.
Embers BBQ was created to serve high quality BBQ at affordable prices in downtown Southern Pines. Every meat on our menu is smoked in-house daily. Some of our menu items like a quesadilla or nachos may veer slightly from your typical BBQ menu, but all of these items are served with our freshly smoked meats. We also offer fresh homemade sides to go along with our smoked meats served up with our signature homemade BBQ sauce.
Chef David started early in life learning the basics from his father. His father, Ken, known to everyone as “The Chicken Man”, spent countless weekends roasting whole hogs or ½ chickens on open pit BBQs. He helped his mother, Irene ,and father set up the pits, cook the chickens, and tear it all back down after each cook.
Upon graduation from culinary school, David moved to the Pinehurst area and worked at many different restaurants. Each restaurant taught him something new and ultimately led him to Embers BBQ. With support from his wife Michele and son Wyatt, Embers BBQ has become his permanent home. For him, this is a family restaurant.
One thing he has learned along the way. The best BBQ is slow smoked and made with love. You need a passion to make the best BBQ. Come try some and judge for yourself
